Union Square Donuts: Possibly the Best Donuts in Boston (!?)

Guys, I never thought I would be a donut person.

I didn't eat donuts a lot as a kid. Actually, I don't really remember ever choosing to eat donuts - when I got my monthly sweet dessert, I always wanted cake.

Man, I've been missing out.

Union Square Donuts is this really cute, quaint little donut shop in Union Square, Somerville. I was first introduced to them when Caitlin, my roommate, texted me about them when she was interning for AthenaHealth a few summers back. She would rave about them all the time, and I would just be like, meh. They're donuts, how good can they be?

And then I had a Union Square Donut.

Union Square is actually not super far from where I live - it's a 30 minute walk out, maximum. It's really cute and has a farmer's market in the summer and a small, hole in the wall Italian shop with homemade mozzarella for a reasonable price and it's just very quaint and adorable. I don't actually remember the first time Caitlin and I decided to make the trek out to get some, but after that, it became a rather regular occurrence.

Now they have a pop up shop in Inman Square, which is where I live. I don't think I've ever been so excited.

I also had them at my internship this past summer, at Involution Studios. It was great. Free donuts every Friday, and we would share them so that we each got to try a bunch of different flavors.

My personal all time favorite is the Maple Bacon donut. It has maple syrup in it, which appeals to my Canadian side, and it has Bacon in it, which appeals to everything else. I love bacon. Who doesn't love bacon? If you go to Union Square Donuts, I highly recommend this one.

Unless you're vegan, in which case, you probably shouldn't order this one. They do, however, make amazing vegan donuts. I am not vegan, I don't usually like vegan things, I don't really understand veganism, but I do like a good donut regardless of what's in or what's not in them. I've had the Blackberry Basil Lime, and it's great.

I also really enjoy the Boston Creme (it's filled with yummy pastry cream!), the Bourbon Caramel, the Hazelnut Crunch, the Vanilla Bean... basically, you can't really go wrong.

Have you ever gone to Union Square Donuts? What's your favorite flavor? Do you think you know of another donut shop that's better than this one?
