Whim of the Week: Crochet Fruit Coasters

8:00 PM

I've started numerous crochet and knitting projects recently (Catherine and I have been crochet buddies as we binge watch Once Upon A Time), in an effort to use up the ridiculous amount of yarn I've somehow accumulated these past two years. A lot of these projects are for the home, since my friends Caitlin and Emma and I will be moving to an apartment next year and I thought this especially could be a cute addition.
This, of course, being fruit coasters. I had a bunch of colored yarns left over from amigurumi I was making for Christmas presents (a snake for my dad and a minion for my friend Brianna) which luckily matched the colors needed for the fruit.

I ended up making doubles of everything, because one of my friends, Sonya, is also moving to an apartment with 2 of her friends so I thought it would be a cute housewarming present too!

In the end, I ended up with 2 apples, 2 pears, 2 strawberries, and 2 lemons. I also made 2 simple bowls out of brown yarn that I had bought and never ended up using (Caitlin ended up using some of it during the semester to make her boyfriend, Harvey, an amigurumi poop - don't ask). While the fruit coasters were based off of a pattern, the bowls were freehand. They were fairly simple to make - I used a half-double crochet stitch to make the circular bottom, and then alternated rounds of single and half-double for the sides.

Here they are in their full glory!
