The Coffee Buzz: ImprovBoston, Knife Class, and Expert Foam Cutting Skills

7:00 PM

My friends and I had a pretty great weekend last week, filled with laughter and chopping and slicing vegetables (and in Veronica's case, herself).

On Friday, we went to see our RLAD, Mike, perform with his friend Andy at ImprovBoston (Midy Zevelin - you should check them out!). I don't think I've ever laughed harder in my life, and Veronica, Catherine, Doug, and I have just added so many more things to our list of things-we-shouldn't-laugh-at-but-we-do-anyway (Fidelity Investments, for one, and shellfish allergies...).

V, Cat, and I signed up for a knife-cutting class at a French cooking store nearby, Sur la Table. The class was about 2 hours long, and we spent the entire time learning about how to care for our knives, different ways of cuts and techniques for cutting hard-to-cut foods such as onions and peppers. It was super fun - I don't know if knowing that a julienne cut is 1/8th of an inch by 1/8 of an inch by 2 inches is particularly useful (because really, when I'm cooking for myself I'm not going to bother), but it is a fun fact to add to my ridiculous database of I-don't-know-what-to-talk-about-so-let-me-word-vomit-facts-until-I-do. Veronica, being Veronica, was the only person at the class to slice her finger open. Catherine and I teased her for it relentlessly.

Other things that happened this week:

I learned how to cut foam properly! For work, I made 5 foam models for the Vinci school, and I cut templates out of bristol (lasercutting, of course) and then used them to run the foam through the hot wire cutter. My skills have increased dramatically since the last time I cut foam (it was ridiculously patchy and ugly), and I'm still so excited about it. All the edges matched up! (I could've sworn I had a picture of this but maybe not... You'll just have to take my word for it.)

I'm currently working on redoing the design of the blog, so I'll definitely write about that when I'm happy with everything!

I'm also working on 3 sewing projects, 1 crocheting project, 1 knitting project, and multiple other projects are in the queue. Going to make the most of the last few weeks of my summer! (Although those granny squares I'm making - each one takes about 40 minutes so I only have 8 and I need 50 for my project and ughhhh)

How was your week?
