Whim of the Week: Crochet Pillowcase
9:46 PMI've mentioned before that I have a ridiculous amount of yarn collected and need to use up, so here's another crochet project that I just recently finished for my apartment!
I found this really pretty floral granny square pattern (which I unfortunately couldn't find again afterwards, so I can't cite it) and I immediately decided I needed to use it in some way. Originally, I was planning on making a blanket, but when I realized that each granny square took approximately 30-40 minutes to crochet (since I was using a really fine yarn with a 3.5mm hook), I had to quickly switch gears.
I ended up deciding to make a throw pillow instead! For this, I actually sewed my own pillow with some leftover cream satin-finish fabric that I had bought for my little sister's christmas present (I made her the pink Ariel dress) and stuffed it with some cotton stuffing that I had lying around for amigurumi projects. The pillow is a pretty standard 18" x 18" throw pillow, and after laying out some of my floral granny squares I found that I would need 25 for each side.
I ended up making 25 floral granny squares for one side and 1 super huge, normal granny square for the back (mostly because I was getting lazy and I really wanted to see the pillow finished).
Here's the finished project!
